THE CHALLENGE

Fragmentation & Land Tenure Pressures

The subdivision of ancestral Maasai group ranches into individually titled parcels risks fragmenting contiguous wildlife habitats into unmanageable fragments. Fencing, indiscriminate land speculation, and lack of statutory management frameworks threaten ancient elephant migration corridors and leave pastoral landowners without sustainable, long-term revenue.

  • • Corridor Severance: Fencing blocks historic wildlife paths connecting Amboseli to Tsavo and Chyulu Hills.
  • • Pastoral Vulnerability: Individual micro-parcels cannot support viable rotational herds during droughts.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

What We Aim to Achieve

  • ✓ Consolidate individual land parcels into 42 contiguous community conservancies under democratic land trusts.
  • ✓ Formulate, gazette, and operationalize 10-year statutory Conservancy Management Plans compliant with KWS and EMCA.
  • ✓ Institutionalize transparent board governance, gender parity, certified financial auditing, and dispute arbitration.
  • ✓ Negotiate high-value ecotourism concession leases ensuring fair per-acre payments and direct electronic household dividends.
